What to prepare

For the workflow this product is designed around, gather:

  • Supplier pack sizes and current pack prices
  • Ingredient quantities used by each recipe
  • The actual yield or number of servings

A practical way to use your records

Use matching units when comparing a purchased pack with the quantity used. Cost a defined batch, check its yield and review plate costs alongside your menu-price inputs. Update ingredient prices when your supplier records change rather than assuming an old estimate still applies.

A worked example

Fictional example: a cook checks ingredient cost per portion for a batch before considering a menu price.

Flour used
2 kg from a 10 kg pack costing $20
Other batch ingredients
$8 in total
Actual batch yield
12 equal portions
  1. Keep pack quantity and recipe quantity in the same unit before calculating the flour used.
  2. Add the ingredient costs and divide by the portions actually produced; review other costs separately when considering a selling price.

Result: Flour costs $4 for this batch. Combined ingredients cost $12, or $1 per portion. The example excludes labor, packaging and overhead, so $1 is an ingredient-cost result rather than a recommended menu price.

Fictional figures explain the workflow; they do not represent customer results or guarantee particular template fields. See the included features above and the current Etsy listing.
