What to prepare

For the workflow this product is designed around, gather:

  • Expected receipts and their timing
  • Planned outgoing payments
  • The budget assumptions behind each forecast entry

A practical way to use your records

Start with when money is expected to move, not only when a sale or expense is recorded. Keep forecast figures distinguishable from actual transactions and revise them as better information arrives. Review the dashboard alongside the assumptions behind each period.

A worked example

Fictional example: a business checks the closing cash implied by one month's expected receipts and payments.

Opening cash
$2,000
Expected receipts
$5,000 during the month
Expected payments
$4,200 during the month
  1. Place receipts and payments in the period when cash is expected to move, keeping invoice dates separate where needed.
  2. Calculate the closing balance and review the effect of any receipt arriving later than assumed.

Result: The base illustration closes at $2,800: $2,000 + $5,000 − $4,200. If $1,000 of receipts slips to the following month, this month's result becomes $1,800. The comparison makes the timing assumption visible rather than treating a forecast as cash already received.

Fictional figures explain the workflow; they do not represent customer results or guarantee particular template fields. See the included features above and the current Etsy listing.
